TA-Linux 0.2.0 released (i386)

We are pleased to announce: TA-Linux 0.2.0 (codename "Enhydra lutris"), stable release of TA-Linux.

TA-Linux is a free Linux distribution, that targets Linux power users. It's main goal is to have a small base installation that the end-user can expand to include the software he needs. The secondary goal is to support as many different Linux supported architectures as possible.

These notes are for the i386 release.

TA-Linux features summary

  • Small but easy to extend
  • Optimized for i686 but still runs on i486
  • X.org 6.8.2
  • Postfix MTA
  • ext3, ext2, jfs and reiserfs
  • PCMCIA and wireless interfaces supported
  • Easy to extend with the Collection

Changes from 0.2.0-rc1 include

  • Expert mode implemented for package selection
  • Udev used for install
  • LVM and MD-RAID devices are now listed on destionation selection
  • CD includes kernel modules for special needs under installation
  • Update X.org to 6.8.2
  • Kernel 2.6.11.12 as primary and optional 2.4.31 kernel
  • New service management tool (rc)
  • Many updates to core packages, including:
    • Postfix 2.2.3
    • OpenSSH 4.1p1
    • OpenSSL 0.9.7g
    • module-init-tools 3.1
    • coreutils 5.2.1
    • udev 057
    • mdadm 1.11.0
    • gcc 3.2.3

Getting TA-Linux

TA-Linux can be downloaded as CD iso images or as individual files from the TA-Linux download sites. Installation from a CD is highly recommended.

Known issues with 0.2.0-release

Installation:

  • Setting up the network with DHCP if updating the collection after install fails. Static IP should work ok. Does not affect generic network setup.
  • Font change have no effect.
  • PCMCIA support added to install disk but modules are only available on the CD.

  • None known at this time.

  • Howto has not been updated for this release
